Shemila: Mid Cities Counseling Center, PLLC's mission is to provide individualized, high-quality mental heath care on a personal level. As a psychotherapist and mental health counselor, I have created a practice that I believe in and would choose for my own family members. It is never easy to reach out for help, but it is the first step to a journey towards peace and joyful living.
After serving Combat Veterans' throughout Central Texas for many years, I decided to move closer to my family and establish my current practice serving DFW and the Mid Cities. I have a focus on starting where the client is and believe in working with my patients to maintain and improve their mental health and emotional well-being. We work together to create balance and peace during all stages of life. I provide services in a friendly, relaxed atmosphere.
I graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a Masters of Science in Social Work. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Social Work from The University of North Texas. I am certified by the American Board of Social Worker Examiners and come to my practice with over 12 years of experience in diagnosis and treatment of mental disorders. Amanda: I employ different methods of therapy based upon the needs of each individual client. The theory I use as my compass is Adlerian. Alfred Adler was a student of Freud, who broke away from Freud for not taking into account the social component of a person. Adler believed humans could only be understood holistically and systemically. He believed individuals were striving for self-development and social meaning. Adlerian therapy focuses on reeducating individuals and reshaping society. The process is purposeful, goal oriented, and takes stock of an individual’s lifestyle. For childhood trauma cases, I utilize trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT). This approach is an evidence based therapy for children who have experienced a trauma (Ex: sexual abuse, physical abuse, neglect, domestic violence, grief, loss, etc.) TF-CBT is a collaborative effort between therapist, child and parent. TF-CBT combines cognitive and behavioral interventions that focus on the enrichment of interpersonal trust and empowerment. Although this method is child centered it also has the goal of supporting the parent with possible issues stemming from child traumatization. TF-CBT typically takes 16-20 weekly sessions to complete.
I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Texas. I hold a Master of Arts Degree in Professional Counseling from Texas Wesleyan and a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Stephen F. Austin. I completed my TF-CBT training through the Child Advocacy Center of Texas.

I invite you to visit with me about your goals in our relaxed and welcoming environment. Let’s get started on this season of your life.
Susan: My goal is to help clients live a healthier life by learning skills which will enable them to cope, and ultimately find hope and happiness. I enjoy helping people move beyond the hurts and pains of current and past issues to discover the strength and beauty that lies within. Goals for my counseling relationships include improving my client's quality of life by helping them live with mindfulness and self-actualization.
Melissa: As a counselor, I aim to help my clients identify their strengths and learn skills to better cope with or change the way they experience obstacles. I enjoy working with children, adolescents, families, couples and individuals. Prior to becoming a counselor, I spent my career working primarily with children, adolescents and their parents. I often worked with those with trauma, to stabilize the family or strengthen attachment bonds. During my sessions I focus on the emotional and relational aspects while using person-centered, solution-focused, and dialectical behavioral therapy techniques. Personally, I enjoy playing with my dogs, going for a run, or reading a good book.
