Melissa: As a counselor, I aim to help my clients identify their strengths and learn skills to better cope with or change the way they experience obstacles. I enjoy working with children, adolescents, families, couples and individuals. Prior to becoming a counselor, I spent my career working primarily with children, adolescents and their parents. I often worked with those with trauma, to stabilize the family or strengthen attachment bonds. During my sessions I focus on the emotional and relational aspects while using person-centered, solution-focused, and dialectical behavioral therapy techniques. Personally, I enjoy playing with my dogs, going for a run, or reading a good book.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor Intern under the supervision of Joye Jones, LPC Supervisor. I have completed all the necessary educational requirements to become a licensed counselor in the state of Texas. For the first few years I will meet weekly with an experienced practitioner who will guide and oversee my work to ensure I provide the best care to my clients. I have a Bachelor of Science in Sociology from Texas A&M University and a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology from Tarleton State University. I am certified as a PREPARE/ENRICH facilitator, which I can utilize with pre-marital and married couples.
